Writing My First Book Is Teaching Me More Than How to Write

𝘕𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴:

The discipline. The doubt. The internal negotiations.

The part where you write something brilliant at 11 pm and cringe at it by 9 am. Or how quickly your brain suggests deep cleaning your kitchen instead of writing Chapter 4.

𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.

At first, it seems simple enough: turn your ideas into pages. But somewhere between the outline and the actual writing, it gets real. The kind of real where 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and where clarity doesn’t always show up when needed.

The moment you commit to writing a book, you’re no longer just a writer.

You’re a builder. A messenger. 𝗔 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲.

There are moments of flow. But just as often, it’s sitting there, staring at a sentence, trying to decide if it’s powerful or nonsense. If your reader might be overwhelmed by information overload, or if things aren't formulated clearly enough.

You’re not just dealing with words.

You’re dealing with 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦, with 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, with 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘺.

You ask yourself:

"Is this even good enough?"

"Will anyone care?"

"Am 𝘐 really the right person to write this?"

It’s lonely at times. It’s slow. Some days you feel like a genius. On other days, you want to delete the entire document.

That’s what makes it so challenging, and so worth it.

It’s a 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 moment.

It’s you choosing to 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙨.

It’s you 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚.

And the process makes you sharper somewhere along the way, without forcing it. Clearer. Bolder.

So yes, it’s hard. But so are most things worth doing, and that’s powerful.
