Why High Achievers Need to Celebrate More

When you feel like you’re behind and not doing enough, it’s likely because you’re constantly looking ahead. Never feeling like you’ve arrived, even when you’re making massive progress.

Not the flex as it used to be anymore. Thank God!

But the perfect recipe for burnout disguised as ambition.

The big danger in this is that you can easily get trapped into constantly thinking “𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵?” instead of asking yourself “𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨?”.

My year started with a season of silence with fasting and prayer because I know the pace I am so used to being on is unsustainable. On paper, the last few months have been a highlight reel, including international travel, a TEDx stage, and leading a high-stakes, multi-stakeholder event that had a lot of moving parts and even more eyes on it. Add to that the "regular" life of managing daily to-dos and raising a teenage boy, and the result is a blur.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧. So much so, that these great experiences often start to feel like surreal, distant memories.

I’ve had to consciously learn to stop and celebrate the big and small wins. We often tell ourselves we are "𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦," but that downplays the skill, time, and sheer grit it takes to show up every day.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

You’ll keep brushing off praise, failing to own the value of your labor.

Female success, in my view, stands and falls with our ability to recognize and own it when we see it happen.

With Mental Health Awareness Week approaching, this feels more vital than ever.

Validating our actions isn't just about confidence. It's about 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 to make your health a priority before life 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶.

So this week and every week take the win.

Name it. Own it. You earned it. 🌸

Happy Labor Day 🥂
