Weโ€™ve all seen the posts. ๐ŸŒš

"How to spot AI-generated content":

Too polished. Too structured. Too grammatically correct. Tooโ€ฆ dashed?

Let me add some perspective as someone whoโ€™s written and edited professionally at a newspaper for years.

Yes, AI tools can produce clean, structured text.

I, for example, write almost identically to how I speak.

Therefore, I ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ a well-placed dash.

And parentheses.

And rhythm that breathes.

These are parts of my style and they were, long before AI went mainstream.

But people are starting to somehow feel vindicated by "How to spot AI" posts, as it gives them the license to discredit others based on superficial style choices.

Letโ€™s get specific

People's pre-ChatGPT theses are being flagged as โ€œ80% AI-writtenโ€ by current detection tools. AI detection tools frequently flag human-written content as AI.

Studies show these tools more often flag non-native English writing as โ€œAI,โ€ due to simpler sentence structure or non-standard phrasing.

Emojis and formatting arenโ€™t red flags, theyโ€™re LinkedIn culture.

In fact, the 'โœจ' emoji alone appears in nearly 5% of all LinkedIn posts. (One of my personal favorites btw)

Short, visually digestible posts with space, bullets, and emojis perform better. Thatโ€™s smart formatting.

So letโ€™s stop assuming that dashes, structure, or polish mean a bot wrote it.

AI is trained on human content. If it sounds โ€œhuman,โ€ it might beโ€ฆ because ๐˜ช๐˜ต ๐˜ช๐˜ด.

Instead of playing AI-police, how about we focus on what really matters:

  • Is the content clear?

  • Is it valuable?

  • Does it resonate?

If a text feels soulless? Scroll past.

If it adds something real? Appreciate it.

Regardless of how it was made.

Have you ever been falsely flagged as โ€œtoo AIโ€?

Or caught yourself judging a post too quickly?
